A few months ago we wrote about the Volkswagen brand’s future-forward Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) concept. Now it’s time to follow up with some info on one of the MEB’s first offerings: the Volkswagen I.D. CROZZ. This electrically-powered “crossover utility vehicle”, or CUV, is a combination of an SUV and a four-door coupe. Along with its family members, the Volkswagen I.D. and the Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ, the Volkswagen I.D. CROZZ signals the dawn of a new automotive era, with this trio of electric vehicles slated to begin full production in 2020.
At the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show, the world caught its first glimpse of the Volkswagen I.D. CROZZ. The closest thing it compares to in our showroom is a Volkswagen Tiguan near Parkville, MD, but with a lower roofline that implies a more compact stance. However, the Volkswagen I.D. CROZZ model’s interior is anything but compact, thanks to this CUV’s condensed powertrain, under-floor battery, and long wheelbase. With this vehicle, the Volkswagen brand looks to introduce the idea of an “open space” cabin, one whose components are pristinely-proportioned.
Along with its groundbreaking design, the Volkswagen I.D. CROZZ is set to redefine the current limits of an all-electric vehicle’s capabilities. With a top speed of 112 MPH and the ability to generate 302 hp, the Volkswagen I.D. CROZZ can run with the best of them. But what makes this vehicle so remarkable is that along with its impressive power, it can deliver an incredible 311-mile range through a battery that takes only 30 minutes to reach an 80% charge.
