What is the Volkswagen MEB? That’s the question being asked by tens of thousands of VW lovers nationwide. Heritage Volkswagen Parkville can confirm that this acronym represents a groundbreaking technology in-development since 2015. We can also say that because of the MEB, the Volkswagen for sale near Parkville, MD you shop for in the summer of 2017 could well be surrounded by a number of new, electrified VW vehicles by 2025.
MEB stands for Modular Electrification Toolkit – a modular, cost-effective, time-saving system for building a new generation of electric vehicles. The MEB is specifically designed for electric automobile engineering. With the MEB, VW engineers will be able to ascertain the best layout and position for all of an electrified vehicle’s key components, including axles, battery, wheelbase, drive unit, and weight ratio. Three MEB-based concept vehicles already exist, some of which we’ve covered in previous blogs. The Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ is the newest design, a futuristic, all-electric campervan unveiled at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.
The other two concept vehicles are the Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ, which debuted at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, and the inimitable Volkswagen e-Bus BUDD-e, an impressive blend of nostalgia and futurism that also appeared last year. All three vehicles are part of a larger Volkswagen initiative called TRANSFORM 2025+, which targets VW electric vehicle sales exceeding one million by 2025. This is an aggressive goal, especially considering the initiative calls for 30+ models of various body styles. Aggressive, yes. Impossible? No. If anyone is up to the challenge, it’s the Volkswagen Group.
Excitement is building, and we’ll keep you posted on MEB developments. In the meantime, visit our Volkswagen dealership in Baltimore, MD and enjoy our current lineup, including a stylish, refined Volkswagen Passat near Essex, MD!
