At Heritage Volkswagen Parkville, we are big believers in healthy competition. One of the fan-favorite vehicles at our VW dealership is the 2019 Volkswagen Passat, and our Volkswagen dealers are often asked how this VW sedan pairs up against the competition, including the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. Which vehicle comes out on top?

The 2019 Volkswagen Passat is a sedan that offers the best of both worlds. With a 174-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder base engine, and EPA-rated gas mileage of 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway, the Volkswagen Passat offers some solid performance at little cost to fuel. How does the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu compare? It comes standard with 1.5-liter four-cylinder base engine that earns just 160 horsepower. While the Chevy Malibu equips a 15.8-gallon fuel tank, the VW Passat renders a larger 18.5-gallon fuel tank.

The VW Passat features incredible interior amenities, such as a standard locking glovebox and available hands-free trunk function, which automatically opens when you kick your foot under the rear bumper. By comparison, the new Chevy Malibu doesn't offer options for either. In an effort to prevent washer fluid and the nozzles from freezing during the winter, the new Volkswagen Passat offers available heated windshield washer nozzles. The Chevy Malibu fails to provide this feature in any trim level.
